Women in Franchising: Her Trend in Flexible Business

Women in Franchising: Her Trend in Flexible Business

The franchise industry is known to be an appealing business venture to many. Supportive management backing, tested (and successful) business models, and flexibility around time and commitment are just a few of a long list of reasons why franchising is a career path many dream of. It’s the perfect opportunity to be your own boss while still having the guidance and support system you desire. With such a lucrative opportunity available, it makes its members wonder, why aren’t there more people hopping on this entrepreneurial bandwagon?

Women franchisees are on the rise

As it turns out, more and more people have decided to jump on this bandwagon. Specifically, women. A recent article from Forbes states that women franchisees are on the rise, and are rising quickly.  Women franchise owners are expected to continue increasing in the years to come. This female-focused trend is fueling the industry toward development, and inspiring women to have a piece of the pie.

Those same statistics reported that these firms generated over $1.7 trillion in sales in 2017. In franchise ownership specifically, the International Franchise Association documented that in 2007, females owned 20.5% of franchise locations. Fast-forward to 2017, and female ownership saw a jump to 27%.

FranNet, a company that matches individuals with franchise opportunities, said that this past year, 26% of its placements are women, compared to 18% in 2011. This growth proves that the franchising landscape is changing rapidly.

There are many variables people want to accredit this growth to, as some point toward recent social change. Others point toward stereotypes between men and women, believing that women may have stronger communication and relationship skills, which are a crucial factor to being successful in franchising.

According to an article by Forbes, others believe that the recent franchising boom in the children’s activity industry has possibly attracted more females to the idea of owning a business, based on their own personal interests.

Whatever it is…let’s have more of it! We support all of the women that are now entering and giving a fresh perspective to this industry. We look forward to seeing how trends like these will shape future methods and models. Here’s to our franchisee family and their continued growth and development in the future.
